What is Longevity?
Longevity, in German "Langlebigkeit," refers to the science and approaches aimed at extending lifespan and maintaining health in old age. This includes various methods such as lifestyle changes—healthy eating, regular exercise, and stress management. There are also medical approaches involving medications, dietary supplements, or advanced technologies like cell therapies and genetic interventions to slow down or even reverse the aging process.
Many of these therapies are based on research showing that factors like inflammation, oxidative stress, and cellular aging influence the aging process. By targeting these factors, it is possible to reduce their impact and improve health and vitality in old age.
Difference between Anti-Aging
and Longevity Medicine
Anti-aging primarily focuses on measures and treatments aimed at reducing or delaying visible signs of aging. This can include skincare, cosmetic procedures, or therapies designed to improve appearance and preserve a sense of youthfulness. The main goal is often aesthetic enhancement and well-being in old age.
Longevity medicine, on the other hand, is a scientifically oriented approach that aims to extend healthy lifespan. It involves understanding and influencing the underlying biological processes of aging to maximize lifespan and delay or prevent age-related diseases. This includes medical therapies, lifestyle modifications, and innovative research strategies to improve health in old age over the long term.
In short: Anti-aging is more focused on external appearance and subjective well-being, while longevity medicine pursues a scientific and medical strategy to prolong actual lifespan and health. Both areas sometimes overlap but have different emphases.
My Longevity Approach
Medications aimed at removing senescent cells - cells that no longer function properly and promote inflammation. Removing these cells could delay or prevent age-related diseases.
Research on gene editing (e.g., with CRISPR) to influence genetic factors of aging. Stem cell therapies to promote tissue regeneration and repair age-related damage.
